Each year, two Portland State University Graduate Assistants (GA) work with PSU and MHKC to recruit over 200 counselors for our summer program. They are an integral part of the MHKC team that helps to make Camp happen each summer. We are very excited to welcome Michelle to that team and introduce you to Matty who is starting his 2nd year in the GA role.

Meet Michelle: Michelle is a first-year Master of Social Work student at PSU, and she’s thrilled to join the partnership with MHKC! Michelle has a developmental visual processing disorder. She’s passionate about advocating for rights and justice for people with disabilities. Michelle has a background in non-profit work, education, and healthcare. Most recently, she worked as a vision therapist, teaching eye exercises to a diverse group of kids and adults with disabilities that impact vision. Michelle is looking forward to meeting campers and to helping more PSU students learn from and about people with disabilities.

Meet Matty: Matty is an advanced standing clinical MSW student and QMHA returning for a second year as one of the graduate assistants for the Mt Hood Kiwanis Camp Capstone at PSU. They have a background in nonprofit project management, educational and social equity facilitation and curriculum development, and Americorps recruitment/training. Matty has a BA in Media Studies, and moved from North Carolina a little over 7 years ago with their corgi-mix, Jolene, to explore the PNW.
