The mission of Mount Hood Kiwanis Camp is simple and direct: “Empowering children and adults with disabilities.” The mission statement is simple, though the mission itself is far from that!

As Executive Director of MHKC, I’m accountable for making that mission a reality for the hundreds of campers that attend the camp each year. As they have for 85 years, a seasoned and dedicated group of MHKC professionals, long-standing university partners, and a community of Kiwanians lead the way. Together, we create a “yes, we can” environment for our campers to experience a range of fun and confidence-building activities with their counselors and peers.

I graduated with a journalism degree from the University of Kansas and spent 20 years running local radio broadcasting stations in Portland, Seattle and Las Vegas as Senior Vice President of CBS Radio and Director of Sales for Entercom Communications. As a local radio broadcaster, one of the most rewarding opportunities was to routinely team-up with local non-profit organizations in various ongoing fund-raising and awareness-raising campaigns. It has been my honor to have been involved in many such campaigns as well as having served on the Boards of Directors for Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland, Lines for Life and CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates).

It’s a great honor to be involved with such a unique and important mission.
