Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp offers award-winning, unique, and innovative summer camp opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities ages 12 and up. In addition to our Main Camp program, we offer off-site programming for individuals seeking a higher level of independence and adventure. On any given day at camp, our campers can be seen catching a fish in our pond, swinging high in the sky on our adventure course, splashing in our fully accessible pool, riding horses, or dancing the night away at our weekly dance. Our camp fosters a sense of accomplishment for campers and allows them to experience freedom and acceptance. As camper Renae told us – “At camp, I can FLY.” Campers keep coming back year after year to experience all we have to offer – recreation, fun, friendship, and more!

MAIN CAMP:

Main Camp activities include our adventure course, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, arts and crafts, swimming, a dance, and campfire programs. Campers sleep in assigned group areas (lodge or dormitory-style housing). Groups consist of 8-9 campers, 8-9 counselors, and 2 staff members. Meals are served in our main dining hall (Fanning). Main Camp is accessible to those who utilize wheelchairs or other mobility supports. We strive for a 1:1 camper to counselor ratio.

TRIP & TRAVEL:

Trip and Travel activities include day-long excursions as well as regular programming at Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp. Campers will experience additional elements on the adventure course, spend a day river rafting on the Deschutes, and, have an offsite trip to go bowling in Gresham. There will be one counselor paired with two to three campers and the outings will be active and rigorous. Trip and Travel campers sleep in our Main Camp lodge/dormitory-style housing. Campers must have attended Main Camp at least one year before applying for Trip and Travel camp and must be approved by the Programs Director.

Main Camp & Outgroup Activity Fee: $288.75 + $150

TENT & TRAVEL :

Tent and Travel activities include day-long excursions as well as regular programming at Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp. Campers will experience additional elements on the adventure course, spend a day river rafting on the Deschutes, and, have an offsite trip to go bowling in Gresham. Tent and Travel campers sleep in platform tents or personal tents (provided by MHKC) in the Upper Barlow area about a ¼ mile walk from our Main Camp area. The main bathroom facility up there is a portable toilet with a portable hand washing station (designated times to shower occur at our Main Camp facilities). Campers must have attended Main Camp at least one year before applying for Tent and Travel camp and must be approved by the Programs Director.

**The only difference between Trip & Travel and Tent & Travel is where the groups sleep.  Trip & Travel sleep at Main Camp in a lodge and Tent & Travel camp up at a campsite ¼ mile walk away from Main Camp.**

LAKESIDE CAMP:

Lakeside camp occurs the last 4 weeks of our 8-week program. Campers spend the week at the pristine Trillium Lake Campground, eight miles East of Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp. Activities at the lake include fishing, swimming, hiking, ranger visit, and crafts. Campers will be camping in personal tents (provided by MHKC), cooking at the site, and traveling to Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp for program areas such as the adventure course, horseback riding, swimming, recreation, and hikes. This program is designed for individuals who need little to no assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s).  The main bathroom facility is a portable toilet with a portable hand washing station (designated times to shower occur at our Main Camp facilities). There will be one counselor for every two to three campers. Campers must be over 18 years old and have attended the Main Camp program at least one year before applying for Lakeside Camp and must be approved by the Programs Director.
