Empowering children and adults with disabilities

Dale De Vries

Retired [Technology]

I was born in Washington, played in the snowdrifts of northern Minnesota during grade school, and graduated high school and college in Michigan. I then earned a Ph.D. from Iowa State University and joined Texas Instruments’ semiconductor development operations in Dallas, TX. From there, I held division general management positions at Tektronix in Beaverton, OR and McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, MO. I then joined the U. S. Treasury Department as Superintendent of the San Francisco Mint, and later retired from the Mint Headquarters in Washington, DC.

My wife, Charlene, and I moved back to Portland where we joined Kiwanis, learned about Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp, and became hooked on its mission at a Thursday BBQ and Skit Night. We have been volunteering with MHKC for about nine years now. For leisure, I enjoy travel, photography and wine tasting.

Why is the camp important? MHKC is one of the few places that our campers are empowered to achieve great things that others might not believe possible in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere in the great outdoors.
